Introduction
The Ennis Homestead is located in the Madison River
Valley, at an altitude of about 5000 feet between the Tobacco Root
Mountains on the west and the Madison Mountains on the east. The
high mountain meadows and surrounding hillsides are dotted with
small lakes and streams, luring wildlife such as elk, deer, bear
and Bald Eagle. Known for pleasantly warm summer days, crisp, cool
evenings and very low humidity, the Madison River Valley and surrounding
mountains are the perfect place for any outdoor activity, whether
its fly fishing, hiking, horseback riding, river rafting or
golf.
A
heartbeat away are historic Virginia City, which has one of the
only original Western opera theaters performing today; Nevada City,
a partially restored mining town, where one can pan for gold and
see how life was in the 1860s; and the famous Alder Gulch
of gold rush lore. Surrounding the Valley towers one of the most
dramatic landscapes in the world: the Rocky Mountains and the northwestern
gateway to the Yellowstone National Park.
